BLASTNET 1.1.0 update

This update brings a lot of new stuff to the game and fixes a bunch of bugs from the 1.0.0 release. It includes new game modes, powerups, upgrades and enemies as well as improved visuals.

Game modes:

ARCADEThe classic game mode, fight as long as you can.
MELEEUse the FLAIL powerup to smash your enemies
BLAST RUSH
Your main cannon is disabled, use dashing and bombs to fight
SUDDEN DEATH
Arcade, with only 1 hp and no extra lives
COLLECTORNo weapons at all, collect bomb pickups while avoiding enemies
FULLY ARMED
Start with all possible upgrades

All game modes have their own highscore tables, both local and online. (And Opera GX Games challenges for each as well)

New upgrades:

  • Afterburner
  • Adrenaline rush
  • Vortex blast
  • Time dilation
  • Powercharge
  • Tractor beam
  • Aftershock
  • Volatile charge
  • Radial blast
  • Decompile

This addition brings the total number of available upgrades to 50.

The update also includes two new enemy types and two new powerups: Timehack and Electrode.

A simple Photo Mode is also included, and can be accessed by pressing <P>. This freezes the game and allows for moving the camera around (using <Print Screen> to take screenshots).


Miscellaneous changes:

  • Gameplay:
    • Adjusted the rate at which the kills required by each phase are calculated
    • [ARCADE/MELEE] Extra lives are awarded every 5 phases only if you have zero lives left
  • Audio:
    • New menu music by Andres Boissiere
    • New, more consistent voice effects
  • Settings:
    • Added <STRAFE> to control options ( when enabled, holding down <SHOOT> locks your aiming direction )
    • Better support for different gamepad button styles
    • Graphics settings for AA and Vsync
    • Adjustable colours (Menu colour, Player colour, Enemy colours) and preset palettes
  • Other:
    • Renamed "Volatile Vengeance" upgrade to "Revengeance"
    • Renamed "Explosive Alchemy" upgrade to "Equivalent Exchange"
    • Renamed "Speed" powerup to "Haste"
  • Bug fixes:
    • Fixed game spawning too many bombs - now capping to player's max bomb count should work
    • Fixed shockwave powerup not firing when the timer runs out
    • Score should now be stable - no more sudden 100 million score jumps
    •  Added crash exception handler function - shows error message & outputs "crash.txt" to AppData/Local/BlastNet/
